Autumn is here, more or less, and the nights are cooling off
nicely. For those who prefer cooler weather (I do) this is a great time of
year. Depending on where your shack is located, that might be a boon or a
bane. Mine’s in the basement, near the
furnace, and so autumn and winter make it a little easier to sit in front of
the displays.
As you may know, over the past several months the club has
accepted generous equipment donations from the estates of several silent keys.
The goal with the donations is to “re-home” as much of the gear as possible so
that the silent keys’ love of the hobby will live on. We are in the process of assembling the
complete inventory of well over one hundred items and will publish it in the
Waveguide soon. Any funds raised will be used to further LCARA’s support of
area amateur radio operators.
The club will also be attending some upcoming swap meets; we will have a table at the Oct 27 USECA Swap Meet. If you’d like to sell or swap some of your gear, bring it to the table.
The LCARA board held its third-quarter meeting in September
and discussed a variety of topics that will make their way to the club. Three
that are top of mind are:
- the pursuit of 501c3 status, which carries a
variety of benefits to the association
- considering a new, modern, 2-meter analog
repeater with additional functionality
- identifying additional activities for area
operators. Recent discussions have included the possibility of a fox hunt,
antenna build party, and similar activities.
We’d love to year your ideas as well – send them to QSO@W8LAP.COM .
Save-the-Date: WEDNESDAY, December 11.
Join us on Wednesday, Dec 11 at 7pm for the 2019 LCARA
